Straight / Cut-Throat Razors

Straight Edge Razor Picture

A straight razor is a razor with a blade that can fold into its handle manually  and features no lock. The blades are often straight hence the name however they sometimes do have a very slight curve to them to assist with facial curvature.  The tang of the blade is elongated beyond the pivot and servers as a finger lock / control point that is often used with the index finger or thumb to create a sort of movable lock as the blade moves accross an uneven shaving surface (face , legs, etc.).  They are also called open razors and cut-throat razors and for many centuries where the primary type of blade used for shaving.  Ultimately in the 20th century straight razor production fell behind that of the safety / disposable type razors only to again make a comeback as of late due to the sophistication and look that the straight razor possesses.   Straight Razors also offer a great cost savings over disposable razors as the blade is meant to be re-sharpened saving hundreds of dollars over the life of the razor.
